Spiritual Companioning Course

“Jesus himself drew near and walked with them but they were prevented from recognizing him.” – Luke 24:15-16

Dominican Center’s Spiritual Companioning course helps you attune your listening ear to those around you and to God. As a spiritual companion, you’ll pray and share with others in a nurturing and peaceful space. By learning to deeply listen and reflect, you’ll guide and affirm your companion’s life experiences and presence of the Divine.

Objectives

  • Learn the art of contemplative presence to others.
  • Explore systems theory and its effects on individuals and communities within a spiritual context.
  • Foster adult spirituality by deepening your knowledge of self and relationship with God to integrate contemplation and action.
  • Expand your personal worldview to encompass social and cosmic realities.
  • Discover the interconnection of contemplation and spiritual companioning as it leads to both personal and social transformation.
  • Encourage reflection on experience through peer group participation.
  • Provide tools for ongoing individual and group discernment.

Requirements

  • Completion of Foundations in Spirituality.
  • Commitment to regular prayer practice and reflection on being a spiritual companion to others.
  • Willingness to participate in all aspects of the program, including written papers and peer group presentations, required readings, and preparation for each session.
  • Participation in personal companioning.
  • Attendance at all sessions.
  • Participation in individual or group spiritual direction.
  • Attendance at a directed silent retreat during the year.

Details

  • This is a two-year program of 12 sessions each year.
  • The first year of the Spiritual Companioning program focuses on personal transformation, and the second year highlights social transformation.
  • Participants who have completed Foundations in Spirituality may register for Spiritual Companioning.

This class meets Tuesdays from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.

2016 Dates:

September 6th & 20th, October 4th & 18th, November 1st & 15th, December 13th

2017 Dates:

January 17th, February 14th, March 14th, April 11th, May 16th

Fees

  • Program fee is $575.00 each year for 12 three-hour sessions (36 class hours).
  • Non-refundable deposit of $50.00 and class application are due in June.
  • Required books for this program will cost approximately $100.00, and may be purchased the first day of class at Dominican Center Bookstore.
